Celebrating Career Plans – May 12, 2022
Our Cooperative Education Program (Co-op) held its 2nd annual Career Signing Day on May 6th. The ceremony celebrated our senior co-op and career placement students, who announced their career plans and signed a commitment letter to enter the workforce with their employer after graduation.
This year, the senior class of 2022 had 136 students participate in the Co-op program, which represents double the number of job placements from the previous year and further illustrates the demand of local employers for skilled employees. These employable young adults collectively worked almost 55,000 hours, earning a combined $815,000.00 salary over the past year.
While advanced degrees are required to enter some professions, in others, one must first convey that they have the skills an employer needs. The 38 seniors who proudly announced the great places they will be working at after graduation had to prove they have what it takes to continue in the skilled trades. The ceremony also recognized the local businesses employing our seniors based on their vocational skills, technical training, and expertise—the new employees are excited to further their vocational education alongside industry experts.
"There are many paths to success, and while I am proud of all of our career-focused students, I am particularly proud of these students heading directly into the workforce. Using their high school vocational-technical training to launch their careers is the essence of our mission. They have a lot of confidence in their skills, and it takes guts and grit to go against the cultural grain of heading to college," said Principal Anthony E. Steele. "Congratulations to all of our co-op and career placement students proceeding directly into high-skill, high-wage employment."
Alec Kaminski-Miller of Bellingham, Automotive Collision Repair & Refinishing, will take his vocational-technical training to his co-op employer, Bulldog Fire Apparatus, a BVT alumni-owned company. Alec is employed as a body technician.
Kevin Hippolito of Bellingham, Automotive Technology, accepted a position with his co-op employer, Feeney Brothers Utility Services, as a Fleet Maintenance Mechanic. Kevin will be working towards his Class B license as well as his hydraulics and hoisting licenses.
Sadie Desmond of Milford, Cosmetology, completed the required training hours and successfully obtained her Cosmetology license. She is certified in hair extensions and keratin treatments and plans to continue to become certified in additional services while working as a stylist at Traveler Beauty Company.
Carson Cordon of Millbury, Electrical, accepted full-time employment as an Electrical apprentice with his co-op employer, Downing Electric. He will work towards his journeyman's license, and his long-term goal is to obtain his master's license.
James Perotti of Douglas, Electrical, will take his vocational-technical training to Energy Electric. He will continue in his co-op position as a prefabrication apprentice, working towards his goal of becoming a foreman and project manager when he receives his journeyman’s license and, hopefully, one day, his master’s license.
Quentin Garille of Uxbridge, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, accepted full-time employment with his co-op employer, Hamilton Storage, as a Refrigeration Engineer. He is already universally EPA 608 certified, which allows him to handle all types of refrigerant systems.
Nicholas Loshiavo of Upton, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, will also take his vocational-technical training to Hamilton Storage as a Manufacturing Technician.
Logan Hampson of Douglas, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, accepted employment as a full-time HVAC Service Technician with his co-op employer, Precision Heating and Cooling, a BVT alumni-owned company. Logan hopes to become a lead service technician.
Alex Mezzadri of Blackstone, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration,
will continue to work with his co-op employer, Medway Oil, as a service technician, where he will work towards an oil burner certification and LP gas license.
Dean Morelli of Mendon, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, will continue his employment with his co-op employer, Victory Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing, as a Residential PM Assistant Technician. After that, he hopes to become a commercial service technician and earn his refrigeration license.
Ben Takessian of Uxbridge, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration, will continue his vocational-technical training with his co-op employer, JJ Mechanical Services, as an HVAC Technician. His long-term goal is to own an HVAC company.
Garrett Colonair of Sutton, Advanced Manufacturing & Fabrication, will continue his vocational-technical training as a cabinetmaker and welder with his co-op employer, Elite Woodworking, and earn various welding certifications.
Julia Johnson of Northbridge, Advanced Manufacturing & Fabrication, will continue her vocational-technical training as a machinist in the model shop with her co-op employer, Waters Corporation.
Connor McNamara of Milford, Advanced Manufacturing & Fabrication, will continue his vocational-technical training as a machinist with his co-op employer, Millibar Robotics, enhancing his knowledge in the machining trade. Additionally, he will work towards his MACWIC certification.
John Defonzo of Milford, Plumbing, will take his vocational-technical training to Green Plumbing & Heating, working as a Plumbing Apprentice. He hopes to obtain his journeyman license and master’s license. His long-term goal is to one day own his own company.
Kyle Dunlap of Mendon, Plumbing, will continue his vocational-technical training as a plumbing apprentice with his co-op employer, T&J Heating, Air Conditioning, and Plumbing. Additionally, he will work towards his journeyman’s license with the long-term goal of becoming a master plumber.
Jacob Lisak of Northbridge, Plumbing, will also continue his vocational-technical training as a plumbing apprentice with his co-op employer, T&J Heating, Air Conditioning, and Plumbing. He will work towards his journeyman’s license with the long-term goal of becoming a master plumber.
Adriana Morris of Sutton, Plumbing, will continue her vocational-technical training as an apprentice plumber with her co-op employer, G&C Plumbing and Heating. After that, she hopes to obtain her journeyman license and become a successful saleswoman in the plumbing industry.
