Student Work Displayed For All with New Scoreboard

New scoreboard secured through donations and fundraising efforts

Scoreboard Ribbon Cutting The far end of Blackstone Valley Tech’s main athletic field was outfitted with a new scoreboard recently thanks in part to a donation from UniBank and the hard work of several BVT vocational programs. The students were heavily involved from start to finish in replacing the old, weather-damaged scoreboard with a new, LED-lit version.

The Drafting and Design students created blueprints for the project that included space for the scoreboard, upper and lower signs showcasing UniBank’s support and the BVT name, and the Beaver mascot perched on top. The Electrical students learned about underground electrical service as they wired the scoreboard and ensured it functioned properly. Students in the Advanced Manufacturing and Fabrication program produced and welded the frames for the UniBank and BVT signs. Once the frames were created, the Auto Collision and Repair students painted the background of the signs while the Painting and Design Technology students created and applied the visual signage, including the vinyl Beaver mascot.

The Homecoming Festival September 29th included a ribbon cutting ceremony officially launching the scoreboard for student athletes, Beaver fans, and visitors. The ceremony, attended by members of the school’s administration and School Committee as well as members of the UniBank team, showcased the sign’s capabilities and provided an opportunity to thank all partners for their work with the project.

The fully functioning scoreboard and video board displayed messages of gratitude, important reminders, and sports statistics throughout the game for all athletes, fans, and visitors to see. It will continue to be a source of information, and pride, for all who attend BVT sporting events for many years to come.
