Engineering & Robotics

The Engineering & Robotics program will interest those students who not only think outside the box but want to redesign the box entirely. Students will explore an advanced curriculum focused on mechanical, electrical, civil, and aerospace engineering. Using our state-of-the-art engineering lab, complete with the latest in 3D printers, a wind tunnel, and structural analysis equipment, students learn to develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Working with the end goal in mind, students enjoy collaborating with classmates from our other programs on school projects and in robotics competitions. This course of study offers a complete experience for students wishing to pursue a post-secondary degree in a STEM-related field and for those planning to join the workforce after high school.

Hands-on Projects
Robotics & Automation: In an effort to promote recycling and reduce collection costs, many cities and states across the country utilize single-stream recycling. In this process, all recyclable materials are collected at once to be separated at a facility at a later time. Our students learn about the robotics and automation required for this process by designing a device that will sort marbles of different materials into individual containers. Students build and program a machine to sense glass, plastic, wood, and steel marbles and separate them accordingly into individual holding bins. The project allows students to showcase their knowledge of various sensors, programming, process automation, and life cycles of materials as a culmination of the Principles of Engineering course.

Aerospace Engineering: Our nation’s fascination for flight and outer space has grown with the popularity of commercial aviation, civilian drones, and the newly-created space tourism industry. Our seniors explore the principles of flight and its history while learning about the contributing factors to navigating the earth’s atmosphere. Students further explore the principles of lift and drag while designing airfoils in CAD for simulation and airflow testing by 3D printing their designs and using different angles of attack in the lab’s wind tunnel.
