A Student Getting Their Temperature Taken by a Nurse

School Based, Student-Focused Health Care

If illness strikes your teen during the school day, BVT’s school nurses and the staff of the School Based Health Center (SBHC) are here to provide them with the care they deserve.

The SBHC is a primary care center located in BVT’s health suite. Although we work closely with the school nurses, the SBHC is a separate and independent health center that provides a level of care similar to that of your teen’s primary care doctor. Medical care is provided to all BVT students by a nurse practitioner affiliated with UMass Memorial Health – Milford Regional Medical Center, and mental health counseling services by clinicians through Riverside Community Care.

Our conveniently located clinic allows students to receive the care they deserve without students or parents sacrificing time to go to doctor’s appointments. SBHC staff coordinate with parents, primary care physicians, and other healthcare providers to deliver continuous care for your teen. Serving an adolescent population, our continuity of care can go a long way toward helping your teen build trust with a healthcare provider.

SIGN UP FOR SBHC SERVICES
To utilize our services, you must first complete our permission form, which includes your insurance information. You only have to complete this form once during your teen’s enrollment at BVT. Most families will have completed this form during the freshmen enrollment process. Your health insurance company will be billed for visits; however, if the insurance does not cover the visit, no worries, you will not receive a bill for medical services rendered. No money is exchanged in our health center, and no student will ever be denied medical services for financial reasons. For questions regarding billing or enrollment, please contact us by phone or e-mail.

MAKE AN APPOINTMENT
You can always schedule an appointment in advance for your teen. However, scheduling an appointment is not necessary. We accept walk-ins. If your teen is not feeling well during the school day, they can ask their teacher or instructor permission to go to the nurse, and when they arrive, they will be directed to our nurse practitioner.

Please note that we do not allow walk-ins for mental health appointments. You must contact your teen’s school counselor for mental health services. The counselor will coordinate mental health services with you, your teen, and our SBHC staff.

HOURS OF OPERATION
Our SBHC is open Mondays – Fridays 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., when school is in session.
