February 2025
Dear Sophomore Families,
The purpose of this letter is to provide you with information about the 2025 English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics MCAS exams scheduled to occur in March and May, respectively.
The ELA MCAS primary testing window is scheduled for Tuesday, March 25th, and Wednesday, March 26th. In the event of extreme weather or other unexpected circumstances, the testing would move to Thursday, March 27th, and/or Friday, March 28th. The week of March 31 is also available for students who are absent during the primary testing week.
The Mathematics MCAS primary testing window is scheduled for Tuesday, May 20th, and Wednesday, May 21st. In the event of extreme weather or other unexpected circumstances, the testing would move to Thursday, May 22nd, and/or Friday, May 23rd. The week of May 27 is also available for students who are absent during the primary testing week.
BVT is obligated by state and federal law to administer the MCAS exams to all eligible testers. Please avoid scheduling appointments or other matters preventing your teen from attending school during any MCAS dates in March and May. For an optimal testing experience, students should be present on the primary testing days.
Beginning on Tuesday, February 25th, students can attend formal ELA MCAS Boot Camps led by BVT English teachers after school. These sessions will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays in February. Students may see their English teacher for more information and a schedule.
Beginning in April, students can attend formal Mathematics MCAS Boot Camps led by BVT Math teachers after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students may see their Math teacher for more information and a schedule. The math review schedule will be released in March.
On the primary testing days before the exam begins, students will be provided a breakfast courtesy of BVT. Students must have their student ID on their person for the duration of the testing. Students must also remember to bring their BVT-issued laptops fully charged to their testing rooms.
MCAS prohibited items, such as cell phones and other devices that access the Internet, are prohibited in the testing rooms. Unauthorized electronic devices found in the testing room will be reported to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education. They reserve the right to invalidate testing results for individuals and/or groups if irregularities occur, such as electronic devices in the testing areas.
We will continue to work hard to prepare students for the March English Language Arts MCAS exam and the May Mathematics MCAS exam. Information regarding the June Science MCAS exam will be delivered in a separate correspondence to the families of students taking the science exam.
Please contact our assessment coordinator, Stephen Grabowski, or me with any questions.
Professionally,
