Eligibility to Play Sports

Parents, it's exciting for your child to participate in sports, but to do so, they must meet the following MIAA Student Eligibility and School Requirements regarding physical examinations:

“All students must pass a physical examination prior to participation in High School Athletics. A physical exam covers the student for 13 months from the exam date. A student’s eligibility will terminate once a physical has reached the 13-month limit. Physical examinations must be performed by a duly registered License Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner.”

The physicals must be IN PERSON. The following link provides our student-athletes the opportunity for an in-person physical at our School Based Health Center to reduce time away from campus and a quick resolution to a missing physical. If you have questions about your child's eligibility to play sports, call our Nurse Practitioner at 508–529–7758  x3702. Our School Based Health Center is open when school is in session: Mondays – Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Recommended Training
We highly recommend that parents and their student-athletes take these online courses:

  • National Federation Concussion Course for Parents was designed to inform parents on the importance of proper concussion recognition and management in high school sports. This course highlights the impact of sports-related concussions on athletes, teaches how to recognize a suspected concussion, and provides protocols to manage a suspected concussion with steps to help players return to play safely after a concussion. Each state's requirements for concussion management are included as part of the course.

  • National Federation Concussion Course for Student-Athletes was designed specifically to inform students on how to identify, react to, and prevent concussions. This free course is presented as a social media conversation, showing how four different students learn about concussions in different ways. It includes high school students and medical professionals discussing concussions. The key goal is for students to be able to identify signs and symptoms of a concussion so that they can get immediate help before any further injury can occur.
