Please review the "Eligibility" section of our Admissions Policy for more details.

Q:  What if I reside out of district? Can I still apply?
A:  Yes, you may apply if you live out of district. A Chapter 74 form, in addition to the other application requirements, must be submitted. Please note that students who live in the district are given priority first in the lottery. Out-of-district students will only be considered after all in-district students are offered seats.

Q:  What if I am a private school applicant?
A:  The student will follow the same process as a student who attends one of the district’s schools. They will complete an application, submit proofs of residency, and complete the awareness piece. We will contact your school’s guidance counselors for attendance and behavior records.

Q:  What is the application process?
A:  Students interested in applying for fall admission can access the online application on our website. Three proofs of residency must be submitted with the application. After your application has been submitted, we will request your child’s attendance and behavior records from their sending school. There will also be an awareness portion of the application that your student is responsible for completing. The awareness portion can be the following:
  • Attendance at a BVT Open House
  • Participation in a virtual student information session
  • Participation in a tour of BVT or one of its programs
  • Completion of the BVT Admissions video module.

Q:  What is required by the district’s sending school/guidance counselor?
A:  The sending school's portion consists of attendance records and behavior records. Please see the Admissions Policy for more details.

Q:  Will there be late freshmen applications accepted if I miss the deadline?
A:  Yes, late applications will be accepted, and the student will be eligible if seats open up in the town of residence. The late application portal will open on April 1st if there are available seats.

Q:  What criteria are used in the selection process?
A:  Each town is allotted a predetermined number of seats for the lottery. The seat allocation will be based on the 8th-grade population. However, for your student to be eligible for the lottery the following must occur:
  • Application completed with three proofs of residency.
  • Completed Student Awareness: Example – attended open house, tour, or participated in a BVT survey.
  • Attendance and Behavior Records sent and verified by the sending school.

Q:  What is the timetable for the entire admissions process?
A:  View our Admissions Timeline for the process and due date.

Q:  What happens if I don’t meet all the application requirements?
A:  A failure to submit residency or complete the awareness part of the application will result in an incomplete application, and the student will not be entered into the lottery.

Q:  Is there an appeal process if my student is not accepted?
A:  Prior to the lottery, BVT will issue a verification letter via e-mail to each applicant’s parent(s)/guardian(s) to review their application. The verification will include: if the application was completed or not, residency status, and the additional lottery weights earned. Parent(s)/guardian(s) may request an appeal by sending a letter requesting a review to the Admissions Coordinator within five calendar days of the receipt of the verification letter. The Admissions Coordinator will respond within five calendar days in writing with the findings of the review. If the parent(s)/guardian(s) wish to appeal the pre-lottery verification review, they may do so by sending a letter requesting a meeting with the Superintendent-Director to appeal the Admissions Coordinator's findings. Failure to request within the five calendar days of the receipt of the verification letter could result in your student not having the correct weights entered into the lottery or result in an incomplete application that will not move forward to the lottery.
