If you’ve ever flipped through a Kohl’s catalogue then you’ve seen James O’Leary’s photography. A graduate of our Graphic Arts program, James began working as a Photo Assistant at Kohl’s corporate headquarters after graduating from the Ohio Institute of Photography and Technology. Now a Senior Art Director at Kohl’s, James works closely with Vera Wang and her team to develop the visual look and feel of the Simply Vera Vera Wang brand.
“The Graphic Arts program taught me the core design elements that helped to develop my creative eye,” James said. “When I entered the world of marketing, those same fundamental design skills became an essential part of my creative process.”
James encourages current BVT students to remember the lessons ingrained in our school culture and continue to seek new opportunities.
“Don’t be discouraged if you don’t immediately succeed in your desired field. Expect to put your time in paying your dues, assisting people, and continuing the learning process,” James said. “Be open to being mentored by people you respect in the industry. Every day is an opportunity to learn and grow.”
